At Cornish Garden Nurseries we stock a wide selection of evergreen hedging plants that are suited to the coastal climate, in a variety of sizes to provide either a starter hedge or immediate screening.Or select an interesting shrub as a specimen for a border or focal point. We are always available to quote for a any project, and can give suggestions for the type of hedge or shrub you require.
We can deliver throughout Cornwall with our own van, or send anywhere in the UK with a carrier. We also undertake removal of old hedging/fences etc, and can complete the planting of any hedging purchased.
Griselinia littoralis ; New Zealand Privet.
A strong growing shrub well suited to coastal situations. It grows in a climate very similar to our own, so thrives in the UK. Is a fantastic hedging plant, evergreen, and salt wind tolerant, and hardy.Prefers well drained soil. Plant 50cm (18") for a hedge. Can be grown as a specimen shrub, reaching 8m if not clipped.

Photinia x fraseri Red Robin
Makes one of the most exciting evergreen hedges around and is also a fine specimen plant. It clips easily and can be hard pruned, so it works well as both a formal hedge and in more low maintainance displays. It gets its name from the bright red young leaves which appear each spring, creating a superb show of colour. Its leaves gradually turn through to orange and bronze to a lush dark green during summer. If Photinia gets lots of sun, it will display clusters of little white flowers in late spring followed by red fruit ( inedible)in autumn. Red Robin is dressed to impress most of the year. Prefers full sun, but will grow in partial shade, any soil but well drained .

Laurus Nobilis -Bay Hedging
Bay Laurels dark green leaves make it a beautiful plant for hedging and screening, or as a specimen. Its one of the oldest shrubs in cultivation, comes from the Mediterranean, also known as the Sweet Bay and is of course used in cooking. Bay laurel is evergreen, likes a fertile, moist well drained soil and sun or partial shade. Can be grown in containers, and can withstand heavy pruning and a windy site.

Oleaster. A vigorous shrub with glossy, dark leathery leaves, silvery beneath. Fragrant creamy white flowers followed by orange speckled silver fruit. Max Height - 4M, Max spread - 4M. Flowers Sept-Oct. Fruits Febuary. Full Sun/Partial Shade. Hardy to - 15degrees C. Well drained soil.

Euonymus japonicus 3L
Large, dense branched shrub with dark glossy green leathery leaves. Green-white flowers in May. Ht 10ft - Spread 5ft. One of the best evergreens for coastal or town planting. Good for shaded dry areas, and heavy clay soils. Can be a hedge or specimen plant. New foliage is light green, turning to dark green . Hardy.

Taxus Baccata

Calistemon lanceolatus (Bottle Brush) Trellis
Beautiful plant, grows especially will here in western Uk where it is very hardy. It loves our high humidity as long as it has good drainage. Grow this one on its trellis against a wall to give a wonderful backdrop to your border. Prefers a sunny spot, fast growing.

Osmanthus Aquifolium
Osmanthus Aquifolium native of China and Japan. Curiously like holly but with a looser habit,with dark glossy leaves, smooth oval when young. Flowers in autumn with fragrant white blossoms. A hardy shrub withstanding wind and weather well.

Prunus lusitanica
Native to France, Spain, Portugal and Canary Islands. This beautiful shrub is evergreen, with dark glossy green leaves on carmine red branches, it has lightly fragrant flowers, which are white on spreading spikes, 15cm-25cm long, in late spring. Prefers sunshine/partial shade, can tolerate full shade. Grows 3-15m if left unclipped, but can be clipped into shapes. Fully hardy, can tolerate chalky soils. Berries are harmful if eaten.

Pseudosasa japonica - japanese or metake bamboo.
This is the most widely planted and probably the hardiest bamboo. It has arrow straight culms supporting multitudes of glossy leaves. The shoots appear early season, when planted as a windbreak the rustle of its leaves brings a new element to the garden. 10 yrs ; Height 13ft Width; 10ft. Prefers well drained soil, but can tolerate maritime and poor soil conditions, thrives in shade.
